NOTE: BELOW ARE 7 LINKS TO GREAT MUSIC FILM CLIPS.

Hi friends,

It's a red-faced Glenn Howard here. My tech help says the email list
is NOW FIXED and you won’t get any more random email. Something
didn’t get clicked right when it was set up leading to this snafu.

We've rearranged the list so that only I can send messages to it so
there will be no more messages or replies on it from anybody else.

I startled some of you by inviting you onto my new Glenn's Picks
mailing list and nowhere did it reveal my full name. I contacted many
of you in the last few months that this was in the works. This is the
first mailing list I've ever had to deal with, and I now have a very
high-techie helping to administer it.

The first set of links was not supposed to go out for another week,
and there was to be a small test run to make sure it works.

My friend Clif Cox offered to host the list on his "eugeneweb.com"
server; that's why the messages come from there instead of my usual
address.

I've been working for a month on creating the list and on reviewing
musical videos on YouTube (don’t try this at home-I can do it faster
since I already know what exists). You wouldn't believe how much
dreck I've waded through, but among the swine I've found some pearls-
clips from old movies, news reels, and documentaries containing great
music of the sort that I collect on records and then share with
musicians and friends like you.

The concept is that I'll send maybe one short message out every week
or two, containing links to five or ten
brilliant old musical clips. Anyone can join the list and start
getting those links and anyone can leave the list at anytime.

As an example, here are my music video picks for this week:

Mississippi John Hurt “You Got to Walk this Lonesome Valley” 1965

Bill “Bojangles” Robinson with spasm band 1943

Boswell Sisters “Crazy People” 1932

Django Reinhart & Stephanne Grappelly

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eaGZrq5S3QA

Silvana Mangano with Flo Sandon's & Natalino Otto "El negro zumbon"
but is called “Anna” on the original 78. 1951

Virginia O’Brien “Did I Get Stinkin’ at the Club Savoy 1942

Louis Jordan & the Timpany Five “Beware”

More styles of music like Modern Jazz, Country, 40s-60s Rock ‘n Roll,
Latin, and all kinds of more obscure artists will be featured in
future mailings. Here’s an easy way to get an education in musical
history.

Now that you’ve seen what you’ll be getting,

IF YOU STILL WANT TO UNSUBSCRIBE THEN READ THE INSTRUCTIONS BELOW.

go to this URL:

http://eugeneweb.com/mailman/listinfo/glennspicks

It takes you to a page full of crud. Fill out the "unsubscribe" box
toward the bottom of the page, and click "unsubscribe” or edit
options". On the next page, click "Yes, I really want to unsubscribe"
and press the "Unsubscribe" button. You'll be off the list!

I'm sorry to have annoyed you, and I hope the cool music links will
make up for it. Next time you see me, tell me I'm an old fogy and
not fit to run a 21st-century mailing list. I guess I’m more at the
level of Aztechnology-about 500+ years behind the cutting edge.

Later,

Glenn Allen Howard

Founder and Curator of the American Musical Heritage Foundation.

P. S. BELOW IS ADVICE FROM MY TECHIE ON GETTING OFF EMAIL LISTS IN
GENERAL.

(*): By the way, if you want to get off an Internet mailing list,
the best thing to do is to follow the "unsubscribe" or "Mailing list
information" link at the bottom of each message -- like at the bottom
of this one. (In general it never helps things to reply to the whole
list complaining about being on the list, or asking to be removed;
and it often annoys other people.)

Unfortunately, spammers often send fake mailing list messages with
fake unsubscribe instructions, and if you follow those instructions,
it alerts the spammer that there's
somebody listening at your email address, and they respond by sending
you more spam forever. In that case, the best thing to do is to
ignore the message totally and hope the spammer eventually goes away.
